Employment

We often have a variety of sailing jobs available including Customer Service/Reservation Manager, Sailing Crew and Licensed Captains. Occasionally managerial positions arise.

Sightsailing of Newport has operated sailing adventures in Newport, Rhode Island since 1990. Started by John Hirschler with one 22 foot sailboat and one employee, we have grown to three sometimes four boats offering a variety of sails and 12-14 employees. Our success has been the direct result of great individuals who work here now and those who have worked here in the past.

Currently we operate Aquidneck, an 80 foot, gaff rigged topsail schooner, Sightsailer, a 46 foot sloop and Starlight, an O'Day 34. Aquidneck is sailed by one Master and two crew, Sightsailer by one Master and one crew and Starlight by one captain. Our sailing season starts in early May and runs through October. Aquidneck runs for the entire 6 month period while Sightsailer and Starlight run full time in July and August and on a reduced schedule in June and September. A great deal of hourly daywork is available commissioning and decommissioning the boats at the beginning and end of the season.

Sightsailing is a seasonal business and the dates you are available to work are an important part of your application. Our season starts in May and continues through October. The majority of our business, and consequently our employee needs are greatest during the summer. A willingness to work holidays and weekends is required. You must be reliable and someone who is able to "jump in at the last minute" if necessary. Hours are often not 9-5. Students returning to school in mid August leave us in a pinch. If you can work past mid-August be sure and let us know.

Our standards are high; we want organized, energetic, polite, trustworthy and professional staff that will represent Sightsailing Inc. and themselves well. Our guests and employees are our lifeblood; the person who is willing to "go out of their way" to meet or exceed expectations is someone we want to hire and have return year after year. Positive attitudes, good work ethics and friendly personalities are a must when working with the public and other employees.

We invite you to consider the challenge of working in an outdoor environment as part of a team. Our positions require professionalism and commitment, yet offer fun and recreation, lifetime friendships, personal achievements and a valuable work experience.
