Schooner Aquidneck - About the Boat
With a length of 80 feet and a beam of 17 feet, the Schooner Aquidneck is our largest boat and one of the largest daysail schooners in New England. She is U.S, Coast Guard inspected for up to 49 guests. Reminiscent of coasting schooners that were built to carry freight and passengers at the turn of the century, the Schooner Aquidneck was designed specifically to carry guests in comfort and safety. Her cabin tops are the perfect height for comfortable seating. Her large beam provides stability and allows guests plenty of room to move about with ease. All sails are raised by hand without the aid of winches..just like in the old days! With the ability to fly up to 5 sails, she is very picturesque! Designed by highly regarded naval architect Charles Wittholz (designer of the Schooners Liberty in Boston/Key West and Spirit of Independence/Charleston), Aquidneck was built in Long Island, New York in 2004. She offers a terrific, Tall Ship style sailing experience. Guests board Aquidneck at historic Bowen's Wharf. Shortly after departure the sails are raised and Aquidneck sails through Newport Harbor, past Goat Island and Fort Adams and into Narragansett Bay. The scenery is stunning-yachts, seaside estates, the bridge-and the sailing is generally first rate. The crew and captain are more than happy to answer guests' questions about the area. Guests are welcome to sit back and relax or help raise the sails and participate in the sailing! Also available for private charters. See our private charter page for more information. |
